Become an Umpire!

 Who can umpire?
Any 13-17 year old male or female can umpire.

Where are games played?
Games are played at Prince Park, Leghorns Park and Wiseman.

What is the league?
Petaluma Girls Softball League is a non-profit recreational girls’ fast pitch softball league, affiliated with USA Softball. We serve girls ages 6-16.  Umpires are used for the games in all three divisions – rookies (9-10), minors (11-12) and majors (13-16).

When are the games played?
Games are played weeknights (5pm or later) and Saturdays from March 1 through the end of May.  Each game lasts approximately 75 minutes to 2 hours and umpires may officiate in back to back games on Saturdays.

What are the wages?
Beginning pay is $25.00 per game.  Alternatively, worked hours may qualify for community service hours as we are a non-profit organization.  Insurance coverage through USA Softball is provided free of charge.

What training is provided?
All instruction will be provided by experienced umpires from the Northern Coast Officials Association.  Training sessions are required for all umpires in the youth development program.  An attached list of training dates, times and locations will be provided.  Training includes basic umpire mechanics, positioning, and rules.  The umpire development staff will provide ongoing supervision throughout the season.

Is there a minimum commitment?
We ask that all umpires be available for at least 1 game per week.  Assignments are done as far in advance as possible, but sometimes call umpires at the last minute to fill in.
